What we store on your device, and how to change it
Last updated: 10 September 2026
This page lists every cookie and every piece of browser storage this site uses, by name. If you find something on your device from codetrappers.com that is not on this list, please tell us and we will fix the page or remove the cookie.
1. Nothing is set until you choose
Analytics and advertising cookies are blocked until you accept them. When you first arrive, a banner asks what you allow. Until you answer, our Google tag runs in a restricted mode that reports nothing identifying and writes nothing to your device.
If you accept and later change your mind, you can withdraw consent at any time using the button at the bottom of this page. Withdrawing is as easy as giving consent, and refusing costs you nothing: the site works identically either way.
2. Strictly necessary
These are needed for the site to function and cannot be switched off. They are never used to profile you or shared with advertisers.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
ct-consent |
CodeTrappers | Remembers the choice you made on the cookie banner, so you are not asked again. Stored in your browser, never sent to us. | Until you clear your browser storage |
ct-chat-id |
CodeTrappers | A random identifier that keeps one conversation with our assistant together, so its answers follow on from your previous question. It is not linked to your name or email. | Until you clear your browser storage |
Our contact form is also protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a submission comes from a person rather than a script. It runs only on the contact form, not on ordinary page views.
3. Analytics
Set only if you allow the Analytics category. We use Google Analytics to see which pages are read and which are abandoned, in aggregate. We do not sell this data.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga |
Google Analytics | Distinguishes one visitor from another | 2 years |
_ga_NMJ6HEFZ7N |
Google Analytics | Keeps session state for our specific property | 2 years |
We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which measures page views without cookies and without tracking anyone across sites. Because it stores nothing on your device, it is not part of the choice above.
4. Advertising
Set only if you allow the Advertising category. We advertise on Google, and these let us tell which adverts led to an enquiry so we are not paying for ones that do not work.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
_gcl_au |
Google Ads | Links an advert click to an enquiry | 90 days |
_gcl_ls |
Google Ads | The same measurement, stored in your browser rather than as a cookie | Until you clear your browser storage |
test_cookie |
doubleclick.net (Google) | Checks whether your browser accepts cookies at all | 15 minutes |
5. Third parties that can set their own cookies
One feature on our site links out to other companies: the Ask AI about CodeTrappers links in our footer, which open ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok or Perplexity. Following one takes you to that company’s site, where their policy applies rather than ours. Nothing is sent to them unless you click.
We do not use Meta, LinkedIn or TikTok pixels, and there is no Google Tag Manager container on this site.
6. Where your data goes
Analytics and advertising data is processed by Google, which may transfer it outside the country you are in. Google’s own cookie policy covers what they do with it. Our Privacy Policy covers everything else we hold, including enquiries you send us.
7. Turning cookies off in your browser
Your browser can block or delete cookies independently of the choice you make here. The settings live under Privacy in Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge. Blocking everything will not break this site, though it will sign you out of most others.
8. Changes to this policy
If we add a tool that sets a cookie, this page gets updated and the banner asks again rather than assuming your previous answer still applies. The date at the top tells you when it last changed.
9. Contact
